Why Buy Pricey Cedar Furniture?
Outdoor furniture can be made of many types of materials: metal, aluminum, plastic, and many different kinds of wood. Many of these lawn furniture products are quite inexpensive. So why buy expensive cedar? Because it makes some of the best and long lasting furniture available! There are so many reasons why this furniture is popular, the most important of which is that it is tough and withstands the ravages of weather – and time.
Cedar furniture is often passed down from generation to generation. It is so durable that sailboats and ships in old Europe were often made of cedar – and then furniture often made from the salvaged woods from those ships.
In addition to its durability, cedar is very attractive, charming and elegantly crafted. It has a distinct aroma that is great for us humans but is a deterrent to insects, moths and other wood pests, making it a natural alternative to chemically treated wood. Cedar is naturally prone to prevent mildew. It is practically maintenance free because it is protected by its own natural oils.
Those oils help prevent moisture from getting into and harming the wood. They are also the reason that cedar garden furniture will not sag, twist or break in soggy or wet areas. They also help protect the wood against oxidation when in contact with metal.
The best cedar furniture comes from older, naturally grown trees. This is usually called white cedar. Furniture made from under-grown trees is more liable to split and is not as resistant to water damage.
Another type of cedar has a natural red color and very distinctive smell. Western red cedar stays cool even on hot days which make these chairs more comfortable to sit in when the weather is hot. This wood is also great for hot tubs, saunas, and closet and storage liners since the natural oils work as a preservative to resist rot and decay, bacteria and fungus.
These naturally inherent qualities make cedar patio furniture some of the most expensive furniture available. Prices usually run from $200 up to $1,000 but will usually outlast the life of its owner. The purchase of good cedar furniture is a wonderful investment that you can pass down to your children.
